Floor lamp "aR-Ingo"
The aR-ingo floor lamp is a collectible vintage art object.
The artistic idea of using aeronautical honeycomb aluminum for lighting belongs to Ron Arad, Ingo Maurer and his team took over the engineering embodiment, work with light and production.
This tandem perfectly reflected the essence of the creativity of each of the masters.:
- Arad has always been obsessed with radical experiments with sheet metal. He saw the potential in rigid but flexible industrial aluminum and came up with the idea to roll it into a flower bud that blooms upward.
Maurer, being a "poet of light" and the owner of his own factory Ingo Maurer GmbH, knew exactly how to make this metal structure shine properly. His team developed an electrical filling and mounting system, and turned the crazy concept into a commercial, sustainable and safe floor lamp.
The floor lamp was produced for 22 years (from 1984 to 2006). The production was carried out manually at the manufactory in Munich. Due to the high complexity of working with aviation honeycomb aluminum and the niche demand for such a radical high-tech design, production volumes were small.
According to experts, the total circulation for all years is no more than one thousand copies worldwide.
Honeycomb aluminum is a capricious material. To this day, single copies of the floor lamps produced, including the one presented here, have survived in perfect collector's condition. The condition - of the new one.
Ron Arad is a British—Israeli designer, architect, and innovative sculptor. One of the main leaders of postmodernism and deconstructivism in design at the end of the 20th century.
Arad blurred the line between utilitarian furniture and pure sculpture. His things are often functionally unstable and complex, they are created not for the sake of ergonomics, but for the sake of a manifesto and emotion.
The main thing in Arad's handwriting is working with rough sheet metal (polished steel, aviation honeycomb aluminum). He made rigid building materials take soft, smooth, biomorphic forms (for example, floor lamps aR—ingo and Armadillo).
Ron Arad revolutionized object design by proving that furniture can be an object of high collectible art and carry a conceptual value equal to museum paintings or sculptures.
His works are recognized as classics of the world avant-garde and are in the largest museums in the world.
