Elena Evgenievna Kovylina was born in 1971, Moscow. Artist, specialist in the field of media art, performance and activism, winner of the State Prize in the field of contemporary art Innovation-2006, the State Prize of the Russian Academy of Arts "Against the Current" (2014). In 2018, she entered the 49ART Russian Investment Art Rating, representing outstanding contemporary artists under the age of 50. Elena Kovylina is a participant of about 300 international exhibitions and projects, author and producer of more than 100 art projects, teacher. In 1988 - 1991 she studied at the Moscow State Academic Art College in memory of 1905, in 1993 - 1995 — at the Moscow State Art Institute named after V.I. Surikov, in 1996 - 1998 - at the private school of contemporary Art in Zurich F+F School for Art and Media Design Zurich (installation, performance, visualdeo, object). In 1999, she completed the course "New Artistic Strategies" at IPSI (Mosca). In 2003, she received a diploma from the Faculty of Media Art at the University of the Arts of Berlin (Udk Berlin), where she studied under Professor Rebecca Horn, a classic of German art. At the Fine Art Gallery, Elena Kovylina presented projects from her grandiose plan "Picturesque Images of Performance Art." Elena Kovylina is the central character, the narcissistic object of all her works. She is a synthetic artist, as she creates her work as an artist, performs performance art as a director and actor, installs video materials, and then, in accordance with the documentation, paints paintings where all the heroines are herself. In fact, all her works in all their parts and genres are self—portraits.
