Wooden Queen
A series of wood sculptures continues the well-known Yoomoota gaming line, transforming iconic chess pieces into standalone art objects. The King embodies vigilance and the desire for protection, the Queen reflects both danger and the inherent vulnerability of even the most powerful figure, while the Knight represents the necessary cunning in the fulfillment of duty. The interaction between the characters is shaped by their internal dramaturgy, mirroring the underlying laws of society. The use of wood emphasizes the monumentality of the work, while recalling the fragility of the system.
Taras Zheltyshev (Taras Yoom) is an international multidisciplinary artist, creator of the immersive art universe Yoomoota, and a participant in major contemporary art exhibitions across Europe, Asia, and the United States. His paintings, sculptures, and installations merge the organic and the artificial, exploring human nature and our relationship with the world through the signature style of biomorphic surrealism. Combining contemporary techniques with traditional craftsmanship, he creates a fantastical universe where functional objects become tools for investigating all dimensions of human experience — from physiology to emotional states and the perception of reality.
Zheltyshev began his artistic journey in collectible design, earning recognition from the international design community through awards such as the A’ Design Award, International Design Awards, Good Design Awards, and Elle Decoration. He later developed an independent practice in painting and sculpture, working at the intersection of craftsmanship and technology. His artistic techniques include oil and acrylic painting, lithography, graphite drawing, assemblage, hand modeling, 3D printing, and digital art.
Today, Taras Zheltyshev’s works are held in private collections in Paris, London, Seoul, Belgium, Miami, New York, and Moscow, and have been featured in Forbes, Harper’s Bazaar, L’Officiel, The Art Newspaper, and GQ.
