Anton Levin was born in Nizhny Novgorod and lives and works in St. Petersburg. In his artistic practice, artist works with a critique of the overproduction of visual images. He strives to reveal the inseparable connection between the digital environment and the contemporary subject, examining the influence of the medium on the artwork and the role of the artifact in art. References for his works range from random images found online to imagery drawn from classical art. Using the principle of collage, the author merges these images into a unified narrative. He conducts plastic experiments with traditional media, combining painting and sculpture with materials unsuited to them—such as children’s modeling clay and polymer clay—pushing them to the state of a pictorial object.
