Tapestry Untitled [smoke]
Jacqueline Surdell is an American artist who transforms thread, knots, and weaving into a language of memory, strength, and corporeality. In her works, textiles resonate as relief-like poetry: softness becomes monumental, while manual labor takes on the quality of an almost meditative gesture.
Her works often take the form of large-scale reliefs or soft architectural structures: they are simultaneously fragile and powerful, decorative and deeply corporeal. Physical exertion and repetition are essential to her approach, which is why the process of creation is no less significant to her than the resulting object.
