From the series «Over the sea» (#2)
In the series “Above the Sea,” I explore the experience of loss, in which the departure of a loved one over time ceases to be an inevitable chasm between life and death and takes the form of an invisible presence — a quiet yet steady feeling of someone standing nearby, manifesting itself in nature, silhouettes, the breath of the wind, and the very act of looking. Working with things that belonged to my mother became for me a search for light and led to a simple yet fundamental realization: I am a continuation of her life. This feeling became a source of comfort and inner strength.

Nina Minchenok (1997) is a photographer.
Nina works with documentary and staged photography. She studied at the directing department of VGIK and later graduated from the Moscow Institute of Culture. Currently, she is a student at the Rodchenko School.
In her practice, she pays particular attention to various printing methods, including alternative manual processes. She explores states of absence and invisible presence. Her focus is on space as an independent carrier of meaning, where personal experience intersects with imagination, memory, and the experience of loss. «I am interested in the moment when a photograph ceases to be a testament to reality and becomes a way to connect with something that cannot be seen directly but can be felt».
Lives and works in Moscow. The author’s works are in private collections, as well as in the collection of the Tretyakov Gallery.
