Even dark is light
Alexey Kuznetsov is an artist who lives and works in Lisbon. His practice is built around abstraction, language, and procedural experiment. In painting, Kuznetsov uses an aluminum ruler instead of a brush, creating multi-layered acrylic surfaces through repetition, friction, and limitation.
These works do not depict, but construct — they exist as situations and spaces for perception. Compositions are born from slow, directional movements where gesture, duration and structure become inseparable.
Along with acrylic designs, Kuznetsov periodically turns to oil, where he uses the technique of scratching and scraping the surface. These works continue his interest in the resistance of the material and in the perception of painting as an event in time, enhancing the physicality and tactility of the experience.
