About the Work
About the Artist

"Living Layer" is the first series created using a signature "pressure technique," in which the painting medium is forced through the canvas mesh from the back to the front. The artist barely touches the surface with hands or a brush; the form is shaped by the viscosity of the material, the structure of the mesh, and the force of gravity. Working with oil paint yields organic textures reminiscent of mycelium, algae, sprouts, and biomes. The surface appears to grow spontaneously toward the viewer, extending in tendrils and freezing in mid-motion. Thus, the technique becomes a form of "anti-painting": the image is not applied to the surface but emerges from within the material structure of the canvas itself.

A multidisciplinary artist working in sculpture, painting, graphics, installation, and performance. He has been a member of the Parasite art group since 2017. He was a resident of the Unconquered-17 workshops (2020–2021), a lighting designer at the AKHE Engineering Theater (2020–2022), and a resident of the Pushkinskaya-10 art center since 2022, following a project competition.

Currently, Dmitry's main practice is works created using his signature "pressure" technique, which transforms a painting into an object—under pressure, the paint seeps through the canvas, resulting in a painting that mutates under its own weight. "For me, this process is comparable to what's happening to us now—from the abundance of feelings and thoughts, a person

mutates. Sometimes, I mechanically make holes in a canvas—and so it is with us—it turns out that we are torn apart. In

experiments with materials, I reflect general societal tendencies or subjective experiences from

the context in which I find myself. Using atypical means, I express the sensation of social mutations

or paradoxes, exploring the 'collective body.'"
