"The Winged Newt" sculpture
The Winged Newt (Spanish: Tritón Alado) is a famous surreal bronze sculpture by Salvador Dali, created by him in 1974. It is part of his large-scale series of small sculptures and reinterprets classical ancient Greek mythology through the prism of surrealism. In ancient legends, Triton is forever bound by the weight of the ocean depths and is doomed to be a prisoner of the aquatic kingdom. Dali deprives him of his usual scaly tail, giving him powerful wings spread out behind his back instead.This is not a harbinger of storms, but a triumph of absolute freedom. The flawless dynamics of bronze conveys not a frozen pose, but the ecstasy of flight itself. This is a hymn to the human spirit, which, despite earthly shackles, is able to gain wings and soar above the ordinary. This Newt is from the I 63/350 series, created as an elite gift and collector's item in 1980 year.

Salvador Dali was a great Spanish artist and the most eccentric and famous leader of surrealism, who transformed his own subconscious, dreams and fears into world art. Combining the academic, almost photographic precision of the drawing with absurd subjects like melting clocks, elephants on spider legs, and drawers in their bodies, he created unique optical illusions and shocking images. Throughout his life, his main muse, model and tough financial manager was his wife Gala (Elena Dyakonova), thanks to whom Dali became not only a cult painter, but also a commercially successful designer, jeweler and director, who left behind a monumental Theater Museum in his hometown of Figueres. Salvador Dali was an absolute generalist and, in addition to painting, worked actively in cinema (he created the cult film "The Andalusian Dog" with Bunuel and the Hitchcock dream scene), sculpture (cast his images in bronze), literature (wrote novels and memoirs), jewelry (designed luxurious jewelry with mechanical elements), design clothing and perfumes (he created bottles, fabrics and hats-shoes with Elsa Schiaparelli), as well as furniture design (author of the famous sofa in the shape of Mae West's lips) and photography.
