An original color lithograph from a cycle devoted to celestial bodies, created in collaboration with artist André Masson for a thematic issue of the art magazine Verve, Paris. In Kandinsky’s rendering, the series includes two abstract compositions—“Comets,” depicted in the pitch darkness of the Universe, and “Stars,” alluding to the image of the Andromeda Galaxy, the largest and nearest to the Milky Way. Long before the launch of the first satellite and human spaceflight, the cosmos theme continued to fascinate the inquisitive minds of artists, thinkers, and scientists. The first photograph of the Andromeda Nebula was obtained by Isaac Roberts as early as 1899.
