Madhukar Mucharla is an artist from Nandi Wanaparthy village near Hyderabad, Telangana. Madhukar’s work delves into his humble roots as a farmer's son immersed in the art of leatherwork. He completed his Master of Fine Arts from Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University, Hyderabad, in 2020, preceded by a Bachelor's degree from Potti Sriramulu Telugu University in 2017. Madhukar’s artistic journey was shaped by his upbringing, during which he closely observed the craftsmanship behind leather products such as footwear and drums. The turning point in his artistic evolution came during his post-graduation, awakening him to the expressive possibilities of leather as a medium for contemporary art. This realization blossomed during a traditional leather puppetry workshop, where his creations transcended mere portraits; He intricately hand-stitches leather pieces to craft compelling narratives, often portraying icons of social reform such as B.R Ambedkar and Jyoti Bai Phule. Today, Madhukar’s art is a tapestry interwoven with themes of Dalit identity, history, and mythology, showcasing the transformative power of materials deeply rooted in cultural heritage.
