The voice of the trumpet
The painting "Angel" from the "Garden of Earthly Delights" project. The "Garden of Earthly Delights" project explores the unknown in human culture—the image of Paradise. The exhibition's title echoes Hieronymus Bosch's famous work, "The Garden of Earthly Delights," in which the eminent master expressed his concept of Heaven and Hell through numerous artistic images.
Paradise is completely different, transcendental, and beyond anything we know here in this world. Transcendence, otherness, and otherworldliness are, to some extent, the fundamental distinguishing features of this concept. This transcendence and unknowability are so indescribable that any notion we have of Paradise can only be embodied in images of subjective fantasy (as in Hieronymus Bosch). And despite all the efforts to describe the indescribable and embrace the immensity, ultimately everything comes down to just the visible form of something beautiful, joyful and airy, a certain cultural code characteristic of a particular era.
The "Russian Fog" project explores the theme of traditions and their influence on cultural codes. Various cultural phenomena, finding new ground, are transformed and strengthened in the new cultural space, sometimes absorbing local traditions, and sometimes transforming them, ultimately giving birth to new cultural meanings. This process can be observed in all areas of art, where so-called "borrowings" are synthesized with traditional experience of sculptural expression, forming a new artistic language.
