With a book
A work from the "With a Book" series. A chamber composition where the figure of a girl with a book is not the narrative center, but the point at which the process of feeling and memory begins. The universal subject acquires an intimate perspective without losing contact with the viewer: recognizability and repetition open the way to a personal space in which images of reality, memories, poetry, and dreams are intertwined.
Rasikh Akhmetvaliev's creative method was formed in Ufa in the 1980s, in the "Genghis Khan" art group, which he co-founded with artists whose artistic views were far removed from the concreteness of routine Socialist Realism. Rasikh's work is a fusion of life's impressions: admiration for the art of the Italian Renaissance, the works of the masters of the Parisian School and the German Expressionists, a passion for Russian iconography and the Suprematists.
Rasikh Akhmetvaliev's paintings resemble a May meadow, where "women and horses roam freely and joyfully." The motif of "riders" and "riders by the sea"—one of Akhmetvaliev's favorite symbols, personifying the fusion of body and soul—serves the same idea of uniting the heavenly and the earthly, the weightless movement of air (spiritual) masses and the erasure of boundaries, the desire for inner freedom and purity. Women are a source of great spiritual strength; they imbue the world with lightness, sensual freshness, and warmth, maintaining a connection between the earthly and the heavenly.
Akhmetvaliev perceives life poetically: he considers it unacceptable to create beautiful paintings, paying attention to color and mood. The artist is called "the Frenchman from Bashkiria" not only because he lived in Paris for eight years, but also because of his unique worldview, cultural perception, and tastes. His work reveals a connection to the values of the School of Paris.
